Dr. Huang Yilun, Orthopaedic Consultant and Spine Surgeon at Total Orthopaedic Care and Surgery, Novena Medical Centre, was invited as a faculty speaker at the inaugural ARMED EXCHANGE Annual User Meeting 2026, held in Phu Quoc, Vietnam in March 2026.
The ARMED EXCHANGE meeting brought together more than 100 leading spinal surgeons, surgical educators, and medical innovators from over 20 countries, united around the shared goal of advancing minimally invasive spine surgery through clinical collaboration and the exchange of technical knowledge. The programme spanned emerging surgical techniques including Uniportal Biportal Endoscopy (UBE), uniportal PSLD/PELD, transforaminal approaches, and the latest developments in robotic-assisted spinal instrumentation.
Presentation: Hybrid Robotics and Endoscopic Spine Fusion
Dr. Huang’s invited lecture — “Hybrid Robotics and Endoscopic Spine Fusion: Redefining Precision in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery” — addressed the emerging convergence of two significant advances in spinal care: endoscopic surgical visualisation and robotic guidance systems.
This hybrid approach represents an area of active development within the field, combining the precision of robotic-assisted implant placement with the tissue-sparing benefits of endoscopic techniques. Rather than treating these as competing technologies, the presentation explored how their integration may allow surgeons to address complex spinal fusion cases through smaller incisions and with enhanced intraoperative accuracy.
The convergence of robotics and endoscopy is one of the most exciting frontiers in minimally invasive spine surgery today. These technologies complement each other well — robotics brings reproducible precision to implant placement, while endoscopy minimises the soft tissue disruption that traditionally comes with fusion procedures. Bringing this kind of technical exchange to a global audience is exactly what meetings like ARMED EXCHANGE are for.
